$mart Money Day

Smart Money Day Students

Almost 100 area high school students were on the McCook Community College campus Tuesday for $mart Money 2009, an event designed to promote financial literacy. Here students scramble to find “jobs” in the first chapter of an interactive “Game of Life.” The game gave high school students the opportunity to evaluate the cost of attending college and simulates real-life decisions such as whether to take a full-or-part time job, which college to attend, the cost of dorms compared to apartments, scholarships and loans, and purchasing an automobile. The event was sponsored by the Mid-Plains Center For Enterprise, McCook National Bank, First Central Bank, as well as assistance from the McCook Area Chamber of Commerce, McCook Economic Development and MCC.
